Bellydance Classes in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois
Learn bellydance in a supportive, empowering, and fun environment. Bellydance moves are accessible to all sorts of body types, and regardless of age, size, or ethnicity, women dance this form beautifully. We welcome new dancers and women who have dance training (including classical, modern, ballroom, and others). We incorporate stretching and strength exercises, learn movements and Middle Eastern rhythms, and have fun together! Dance classes are taught by Sahira Zedare, who has over 25 years of training and performance experience in a variety of dance styles, and is certified in bellydance instruction by internationally-renowned dancer Tamalyn Dallal. Level I with Veil
Summer 2008 Session
Explore the basics of Middle Eastern dance! This is an introductory class and no previous dance experience is required. Students may repeat the level 1 course many times, to practice the fundamentals and to learn new aspects of the dance. Three distinct level 1 sessions are offered on a rotating basis: tribal style bellydance, veil, and zills (finger cymbals).
When: Thursday evenings, 6:00-7:15 pm, June 12 through August 7, no class July 17

Veil: You will need a veil for this class. You could either buy a veil or make your own. Check the links page for some online vendors. If you'd like to make your own veil, I highly recommend Shira's tips for making a rectangular veil. I also have some beautiful silk veils hand dyed by Arts of the Empress in Urbana. Each veil sells for $30. The available colors are the following blends: orange/red and turquoise/purple.

Bellydance Drills
(All Levels)
Summer 2008 Session
This class is for all bellydancers, beginners through advanced. We will focus on improving flexibility, strength, speed, and endurance. If you would like to really move forward in your bellydance abilities, this is the place to be! Bring a bottle of water because you will sweat! No prior bellydance experience is required. This class will run if there are enough registrants.
When: Thursday evenings, 7:30-8:45 pm, June 12 through August 7, no class July 17

How much: For full 8-class session: $80, $70 if concurrently registered in level 1, 2, or 3.

Bellydance Level 2
with Veil
Summer 2008 Session
Level 2 classes are for students with bellydance experience. We focus on improving bellydance technique, adding new and more complex movement vocabulary, and learning choreography. Prior to entering level 2, students should have comfort, mastery, and grace with level 1 moves. I It is best if students complete three sessions of level 1 (including veil and zills) before moving on to level 2.

Bellydance Level 3
Summer 2008 Session
Level 3 is a technique-only class for advanced dancers. We focus on precision, style, and performance technique. Level 3 is only open to students who have completed one full year of level 2 classes (or permission of the instructor).
